From major city centre focal points including Glasgow’s iconic George Square to community installations supporting hospices and care facilities, our team demonstrated the breadth, technical capability, and project management expertise that establishes Lightways as one of Scotland’s leading festive lighting contractors.
The 2018 programme showcased our capacity to manage simultaneous multi-site installations across diverse project scales – from large-scale municipal contracts requiring complex logistics and stakeholder coordination through to community partnership installations delivered as part of our “Illuminating Communities” commitment. Our second consecutive year installing festive lighting in Glasgow’s George Square presented unique operational challenges when filming schedules for the Fast & Furious franchise coincided with our installation programme. Working in close coordination with Glasgow City Council and the film production crew, we successfully programmed works around filming dates, demonstrating the flexibility and professional stakeholder management essential for high-profile city centre projects where multiple competing interests require careful coordination.
The George Square installation represents one of Scotland’s most prominent festive displays, demanding meticulous planning, efficient logistics, and absolute reliability. Our proven track record securing this prestigious contract for multiple consecutive years reflects client confidence in our technical capability and operational delivery.
Since 2012, Lightways has installed and maintained the spectacular ceiling of light in Glasgow’s Royal Exchange Square, one of the city’s most photographed winter lighting features. This installation remains in situ from October through March annually, requiring robust engineering, weather-resistant specifications and, ongoing maintenance throughout the extended display period.
The ceiling of light exemplifies our technical expertise in creating visually stunning displays that withstand Scotland’s demanding winter conditions whilst maintaining operational integrity across months of continuous use. The project’s longevity – seven consecutive years by 2018 – demonstrates sustained client satisfaction and our ability to deliver consistent excellence year after year.
Our Glasgow Style Mile installations, also maintained since 2012, create smaller-scale ceiling of light features across multiple streets, coordinating design themes whilst managing complex multi-location logistics.
In Stirling, we’ve delivered the city’s festive lighting programme since 2012, with 2018 seeing expanded installations funded by Go Forth Stirling, requiring design integration, additional infrastructure assessment, and coordinated deployment across new locations.
The 2018 programme included commissioned work creating a permanent light feature for Tennent’s Brewery in Glasgow, visible during brewery tours. This project demonstrated our capability beyond seasonal installations, designing and installing year-round decorative lighting meeting commercial branding requirements whilst maintaining technical and aesthetic excellence.
Alongside commercial contracts, we maintained our community partnership commitments, providing complete festive lighting services free of charge to Strathcarron Hospice, Camelon Sensory Centre, and Caledonia Care Home in Larbert. We also supported Dennyloanhead Community Council by dressing their community-funded Christmas tree with professional lighting, demonstrating our commitment to supporting grassroots community initiatives.
